Smart Tagger Data Deletion
Last updated: May 16, 2025
This page explains how Smart Tagger deletes store data on uninstall and how merchants can request deletion of data we hold about their store.
On this page
1. Overview
Smart Tagger stores merchant session data and storefront behavioral events needed to power tagging rules. You can remove that data by uninstalling the app or by sending a verified deletion request.
Automatic on uninstall
- Shopify sends an app/uninstalled webhook
- All session records for your store are deleted
- Access tokens for your store are removed from our database
Product tags already applied in Shopify are not removed automatically.
On request
- Email [email protected] from a store-owner address
- Include your Shopify store domain
- We verify the request, then delete store data we hold
We may ask for additional verification before completing deletion.
2. What Is Deleted
Session & auth data
Shopify domain, access token, OAuth scopes, session expiry, and merchant user fields from login.
Storefront events
Behavioral events tied to your store (views, carts, checkouts, searches) held in our systems.
App configuration
Plan tier and backend configuration settings saved for your store in the app.
Not deleted in Shopify
Tags already written to your products remain in Shopify until you remove them manually.
3. Retention Before Deletion
While the app remains installed, storefront event data is retained according to your plan. Merchant session data is kept for as long as the app is installed.
| Plan | Event data retention |
|---|---|
| Free | 7 days |
| Growth | 14 days |
| Pro | 90 days |
| Scale | 1 year |
4. How to Request Deletion
Uninstall from Shopify
Remove Smart Tagger from your store. We delete session records when we receive the uninstall webhook.
Email a deletion request
Write to [email protected] with your store domain and a clear request to delete Smart Tagger data for that store.
Use support if needed
You can also open a support request and select a data & privacy topic. We will route verified deletion requests appropriately.
Storefront events use an anonymous browser ID from Shopify’s customer events system and, when available, a Shopify customer ID. The app does not store shopper names, emails, addresses, phone numbers, or payment details.
As merchant, you are the data controller for behavioral data from your store visitors. Shopper requests that relate to your storefront should typically be handled under your own store privacy policy; we will assist with processor-side deletion where applicable.
Uninstall-driven deletion of session records begins when we receive Shopify’s uninstall webhook. Verified email deletion requests are processed after we confirm store ownership, typically within a reasonable period and in line with applicable law.
